As it was used by millions over a very long period of time, Windows XP is undoubtedly one of Microsoft’s most popular Windows editions. Windows XP offered a file searching experience that most users grew to love – a file searching experience that was lost when those users transitioned to Windows 7 and Windows 8. FileSearchEX brings it back. If you want to return to the classic file searching experience Windows XP had to offer, go get FileSearchEX.

The application’s setup wizard allows you to specify where FileSearchEX will be installed. The setup wizard also allows you to choose if you want to integrate FileSearchEX with the right click context menu. Overall, the installation process is simple and does not take much of your time.

The application’s interface is similar to Windows XP’s file search utility. The left hand side is reserved for entering the search parameters. Once the search process completes, the right hand side is populated with results. At the top of the application’s interface there’s a File Menu and a toolbar with a few buttons for several functions FileSearchEX can perform.

Three steps – you have to go through three simple steps to find a file. Step 1, enter the search parameters: file or folder name, containing text, location, data, size, and more. Step 2, launch the search process and wait for it to complete; this may take but a moment or it could take several minutes. Step 3, browse through the search results and access the file or folder you are looking for.

FileSearchEX is not free, it is only free to try.

Get FileSearchEX and enjoy the file searching experience that Windows XP used to offer.

Pros

Getting FileSearchEX up and running is an effortless task; FileSearchEX is a portable application. If you're used with the search utility offered by Windows XP, you will immediately feel at home with the interface. Using FileSearchEX is a simple 3-step process.

Cons

Free to use for a limited period of time. I might feel nostalgic about Windows XP, but I don’t miss the search utility and I actually think that the search utility is way better in Windows 7 and Windows 8.
